Fifa 21, first impressions
FIFA remained my only connection to football. And I'm not exaggerating when I say that. I know more about Piedmont Calcio than about Juventus.
And here we are in a new year (disappointing so far) with a new FIFA series: 21. Does it still need a presentation? This Young and Restless video game player is asking you for money again this year.
You see, football is much more complex than random passes in LIGA1. And the FIFA football game means not only the player with the ball, the one you control, but also thousands of steps and passes, part of a complex formula… In addition, you have to take into account the characteristics of each player…
I've always had the impression that every new FIFA title fixes the exploits of its predecessor. I remember that at FIFA07, which I still have in my memory, I could score from each cross. An achievement that brought dozens of goals to every game. FIFA21 brings together in one game everything that Electronic Arts developers have learned so far. Among them many Romanians, even in key positions.
I think the biggest gain of the new game is given by artificial intelligence. The players are much more natural on the field, run better and position themselves excellently. I only had two offsides in two games.
On the other hand, here is the interesting direction that FIFA21 is going, you can have even more control on the field. From now on you can determine the direction that the player who just passed can go. You must use the Right Stick immediately after the pass.
Good luck with Contextual Agile Dribbling which automatically feeds for you in 1vs1 situations. It can be stopped. Another positive thing, called by EA Smooth Encounters, players no longer fall like bombers in case of collisions.
Instead, because the players are much smarter on the field, it will be harder for you to score from the center. Headers are no longer as effective. However, there is the Manual Heading variant, where you can totally control the entire game phase.
By the way, there are changes in the landslides, in the sense that they are a little better anticipated, so maybe less red cards. And there is no VAR in FIFA21 yet.
And the last important change I'm going to write about, until we get our hands on the game again: passing. The pass system has been almost completely rebuilt.
